As the world's premier producer of glazed and unglazed ceramic tile, The Marazzi Group manufactures over half a billion square feet of tile a year. While most of the manufacturing is still concentrated in Italy, the internationalization drive of The Marazzi Group is more evident than ever with the added capacity in Spain (by acquiring Penarroya) and especially in the United States.
Joint ventures and contractual agreements are also defining The Marazzi Group's strategy in the world market, with joint manufacturing collaboration and licensing in Germany, Turkey, South Korea and Malaysia.
All of this activity worldwide has certainly not distracted Filippo Marazzi, The Marazzi Group's Chairman of the Board, from intensifying The Group's presence in the Italian market, still the largest and most important ceramic tile market in the world. In 1989 Filippo Marazzi completed the largest and most prestigious acquisition in The Group's history by taking 100% of Ceramiche Ragno (at that time the number three manufacturer in Italy, and number eight worldwide). With Ragno's strong export drive, this acquisition again magnified The Group's penetration into both the Italian and world markets.
In 1991, the acquisition of a glaze manufacturing facility (Ramacolor), again strengthened The Group's product development capabilities for the future, and with its most recent acquisition, a saunterer plant in Southern Italy, even more opportunities are open with this new, parallel business.
After the recent French acquisition in 1995, The Group now employs approximately 3,500 people in 18 manufacturing plants, nine of which are in Italy, six in France, two in Spain, and one in the United States. The total sales of over $600 million is divided among France (25%), Italy (23%), Germany (13%), USA (10%), with the rest divided among approximately 130 countries on five continents. The yearly output reaches 850 million square feet of ceramic tile (50% more than the entire production of the United States), plus bathroom fixtures and marble. This transaction completes The Marazzi Group's multi-national organization and integrates well with its current manufacturing facilities in Italy, Spain and the United States.
For over five decades, The Marazzi Group has remained a strong international force in the ceramic industry providing inovative technology, design, advancement and excellence.
American Marazzi Tile, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Marazzi Group, was incorporated in April of 1980 in Sunnyvale, Texas (approximately 19 miles east of downtown Dallas) with the mission of positioning Marazzi as a strong domestic manufacturer in North America.
The first production of domestic tile began in 1982, with one kiln producing 8 million square feet. By 1985, American Marazzi Tile had more than doubled its production reaching 18 million with the addition of a second kiln.
Within five years, the company again doubled production to 35 million square feet of floor tile with the addition of a third and larger kiln. In 1992, Filippo Marazzi announced another, much larger expansion to be started in 1993 to increase volume and expand U.S. manufacturing into larger sized tile. Once this expansion was complete in 1994, American Marazzi Tile increased its production capacity to 60 million square feet annually.
Currently the company employs 260 people and has a daily volume of 180,000 square feet of ceramic tile.
With independent stocking distributors such as Bedrosians throughout North America, American Marazzi Tile serves the commercial, institutional, and residential sectors across the contine|nt and beyond.
American Marazzi Tile's committment to excellence, tradition, and service continues to advance its own capabilities while remaining an industry leader in design, quality and technology.
