We Hearth Tile: Six Ideas for A Fireplace You’ll Love

By Bedrosians Tile & Stone | 11/10/2022

As cooler temps start to creep in, we can’t stop thinking about chilling out and warming up by the fire. Yes, fireplaces are an obsession of ours, especially with all the ways you can style them with tile.

Whether you’ve got an existing wood burning or gas fireplace, or you’re in the planning stages of building a new one, you can really set the mood by how you design the space around it.

Some fireplaces feature mantles, while others opt for a more minimalist look. Some fireplace surrounds wrap closely around their fire box openings, while others are designed to reach far and wide, even becoming a full wall.

But no matter what style of hearth you’re going for, we’ve got a few tile ideas to ignite some inspiration, courtesy of our favorite designers.

Go Rustic

Time was, fireplaces were the main source of heat in a home. So what better way to honor that legacy than with tile that has a rustic, hand-crafted feel. @laurensmythdesign takes us back in time using decorative Casablanca 5”x5” tile in Fida.

Big & Bold

Even with a small-scale fireplace, you can make a sizable statement. @thehillarystyle chose Magnifica porcelain slabs in Nero Marquina to extend this modern fireplace feature all the way up to the ceiling.

Simply Sleek

If you want the focus to be on the fire itself, choose tile that won’t steal the show. By going with our Makoto 2.5”x10” in Shoji White, @flip_social created a stunning surround that effortlessly frames the flames.

Create a Movement

We love a roaring fire that lights up the room. But the reality is, your fireplace will be in dark mode most of the time. Selecting tile with a sense of movement will help keep your style stoked, as @laurensmythdesign did with our Farrara Chevron Marble Mosaic in Nero.

Blend In

Not all fireplaces want to be focal points. Instead, they’d rather blend into their surroundings. Case in point, @roomeyandco designed this faded-back fireplace with our subtle, yet sophisticated, Cloe 5”x5” tile in White.

Black Magic

Here’s a simple trick to make your fireplace appear larger: surround it with black tile to make the firebox look wider, taller and even more cavernous. @orb.interiors did just that with our Allora 3”x24” matte tile in Solid Black, and the results pure magic.

Fireplaces, by design, are synonymous with coziness and warmth, especially in winter. But by fanning the style flames with tile, you can achieve a look you’ll love year round and for years to come.
