Stone Tiles
More on Stone
Stone has been used in both architecture and interior design for thousands of years and still remains a timeless choice today. Depending on how and where the tile is applied, it can take on a rustic, classic, or elegant appearance.
Natural stone is unique in its beauty and appeal, since no two pieces are alike. Each tile has its own individual shading, marking, veining, and porosity. Get to know some of our most popular types of stone tiles below.
SLATE: Slate is famous for its resiliency, making it perfect for use in living areas, kitchens, hallways, and entryways. Most slate tiles are dark in color, which can help make your room feel warm and inviting.
TRAVERTINE: Travertine is a very popular choice for stone flooring since it feels very soft underfoot. Travertine tiles can be pitted and uneven for outdoor installations and walls, or smoothed for indoor installations like countertops. Many people prefer honed over glossy finishes, as it will show less wear and tear over time.
MARBLE: Marble is an elegant and timeless choice. Its beautiful veining and markings have given this stone its mass appeal and its naturally cool temperature makes it a great pick for heat prone areas. Marble is softer and more porous than materials like granite, making it more susceptible to scratching, stains, and water damage and is only recommended for indoor use.
GRANITE: Granite slabs are a popular pick for homeowners because of their strength, durability, and unique natural appearance that varies from slab to slab. Granite is also ultra-easy to maintain and clean, and is stain and scratch resistant.
LIMESTONE: Limestone is a great selection for indoor stone flooring or countertops because of its beauty and functionality. Limestone works with many design themes and is available in a wide range of hues, and both warm and cool undertones. Most varieties come in a honed (matte) finish and contain marine fossils throughout the stone.
SANDSTONE: Sandstone is a highly durable stone tile, which is available in a limited selection of colors. It is a wonderful option for neutral designs and color palettes.
